Return to Spring Greening
After a two-year hiatus (due to COVID), Historic Green volunteers returned to New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward for our 14th annual week of designing, building, restoring & general spring clean-up in this beautiful historic district still recovering from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In all, 22 volunteers - including students from the University of Kansas (KU) & Wichita State University (WSU) worked non-stop on a number of community catalyst projects for several homeowners and our partner organizations, including the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association & Backyard Gardeners Network. We accomplished a lot in 4 days: rebuilding tables & benches - & a new awning for the Guerrilla Garden, restoring windows on a historic shotgun house, making repairs to the Delery Street Playground, & even constructing a new pollinator garden. Lots of hard work, history, great food & service learning!
